It’s that time of year again, when we have to remember a certain special someone who brought us into this world. We all lead hectic lives and more often than not we are rushing to buy our mothers a last-minute gift that we aren’t sure they will even like or not. In our scramble to find that perfect gift, we came across a great store for this Mother’s Day! We discovered Coushies, a local online designer cushion store that just launched a new collection, just in time for Mother’s Day.

Founded last year by sisters, Youssra and Yasmine El Mehairy and Omar El-Seddawy, Coushies was birthed from their passion for chic and modern home decor. Yasmine El Mehairy is the brains behind SuperMama, the MENA region’s largest online platform for mothers, and this is her second startup after her major success.

With designs that are really tasteful and classy but still fun, Coushies collection is diverse; as you scroll through their page there’s a million places you could envision throwing a pillow. With a modern edge you can instantly see them on your couch at home, in an office reception, or on your mother’s favourite armchair. They are handmade in Egypt and the craftsmanship is flawless.

Their latest collection, “Spring Blossom” features soft pastels, several shades of pink with some burgundy thrown into the mix, in true Spring fashion. A couple of items in this collection are a little out there, having a distinct psychedelic style in the palette and the patterns, while others are more toned down. The variety has something for every kind of mom.

Conceived by award-winning designer Tasneem El-Meshad, the collection was made in collaboration with Tawasol for Development, an NGO that helps children in the Establ Antar area learn a craft so their parents will keep them in school and not send them to sweatshops to make money for the family. The collection was also a collaboration with Rommana; a NGO that trains and employs women in the Mokattam area in crafts such as sewing and upholstery which provides them a sustainable income for women-headed households.

Let’s face it, your moms have had their fair share of perfumes, flowers, and watches, so Coushies would be a welcomed surprise. Your mom will start thinking that you have your life together, I mean you’ll be buying them upholstery for God’s sake. Can’t hurt that she’ll also start thinking you have great taste! Plus, Coushies do all the legwork for you; they deliver it to your doorstep, wrapped and everything. Each piece from the new collection comes with its own certificate of authenticity, because the Spring Blossom collection is a limited 300 pieces and once they’re sold that’ll be it. So hurry up, don't procrastinate, and maybe this Mother’s Day your mom could actually get a good gift this year.

Coushies is available through their website, and through their Facebook page.
