Egypt Has One Of The Highest Bribery Rates In MENA According To NGO
According to the German anti-corruption NGO, Transparency International, Egypt has one of the highest public service bribery rates in the MENA region, while paradoxically also scoring the highest anti-corruption score.

Surveying 11,000 people in the region, Transparency International states that 61 percent said that the amount of corruption has increased in the last year in the MENA region.

Half of the Egyptians surveyed claim to have paid bribes when dealing with public services over the last 12 months. However, the country has “more mixed views on how levels of corruption has changed, with relatively equal proportions saying that corruption either increased, stayed the same or decreased," Transparency International said.

Jordan, Lebanon, and Yemen all reported that corruption has “increased a lot” in those countries over the last year.

The Chair of Transparency International, José Ugaz said “it’s as if the Arab Spring never happened. Leaders who fail to stop secrecy, fail to promote free speech and fail to stop bribery also fail to bring dignity to the daily lives of people living in the Middle East and North Africa. Peoples’ human rights are seriously affected."
