8 Alexandria University Graduates Develop Award-Winning Automated Submarine

After spending their university years working on the project, eight Alexandria University Engineering Graduates had their automated submarine project snatch the first place award at the prestigious US-based International Competition for Automated Submarines, Egypt Independent reports.

“We observed that there is no presence for such submarines in Arab countries, so we decided to develop a similar one in Egypt,” Abdel Rahman Magdi told Egyptian TV network ON TV, adding that their brand new submarine is designed to repair underwater oil pipes and snaps photographs below the surface, according to Egypt Independent.

To market their breakthrough project, the students founded a startup, Vortex, within which they will be working towards further developing the project into a new model capable to diving to 24 metres underwater.
