Egypt Ranked as the Biggest Arms Importer in the Developing World in 2015
According to a U.S. congressional report, Egypt bought $5.3 billion worth of arms in 2015, which puts it in first place among developing nations in terms of weapons imports.
According to a new U.S. congressional report titled ‘Conventional Arms Transfers to Developing Nations, 2008-2015’, Egypt ranks first among developing nations in terms of arms importations during 2015, bringing in weaponry that amounted to $5.3 billion, reports Daily News Egypt.
Egypt is followed by Iraq and Saudi Arabia on the same list, which imported weapons for $5 billion and $4.5, respectively.
Egypt also ranked second on the list for developing nations that acquired most arms deals in 2015, outranked only by Qatar. Qatar signed $17.5 billion worth of arms deals in 2015, whereas Egypt signed agreements that amounted to $11.9 billion.
