The Ministry of Social Solidarity handed over apartment keys to 48 families of displaced Coptic Christians in Ismailia on Saturday, Al Masry Al Youm reports.

The fully-furnished apartments are located in Ismailia's Future City, and come as the first phase of a project that aims to house around 200 Coptic families until the deteriorating situation in Al Arish stabilises. 72 more apartments are set to be delivered to the Coptic families by the end of this week after they get fully furnished, according to Social Solidarity Minister Ghada Waly.

Priority for housing goes to displaced Coptic families residing in emergency housing in Ismailia.

Copts of Al Arish city were forced to seek safety in Ismailia and other cities in Egypt after Islamist militias in Northern Sinai began targeting them in a bloody campaign that resulted in numerous deaths and injuries among Copts.
