Four-Time Grammy Winner @ CJC

Surprising Cairo with legendary acts has somewhat become Cairo Jazz Club's forte, and this Thursday sees none other than award-winning cellist Eugene Friesen jam with Ashara Gharby...

When was the last time you heard of a four-time Grammy-Award winning artist playing in Cairo? We here at CairoScene can't think of a time where that has happened, which why we are super excited, and always blown away by the legendary acts that the Cairo Jazz Club continue to book.On Thursday, none other than internally renowned cellist Eugene Friesen will be leaving his mark at Cairo's hottest live music venue, alongside crowd favourites Us We Lazq and the Ashara Gharby band.

It can't be overstated how incredibly fortunate it is for Cairo, to be able to catch this living legend who has played and collaborated with musical heavyweights Paul Winter Consort and Dream Theatre. Friesen AKA the Celloman, has built quite the reputation playing outside the norms of traditional cello music. By playing a wide variety of non-classical settings and creating new techniques, Friesen has expanded his role as a solo and accompanying instrument.

This night will truly be a one of a kind, as the composer, conductor and teacher will be gracing CJC stage for a live improvised jam with the eclectic Oriental fusers, Ashara Gharby. Although it will be improvised, there is really no need to fear of a cacophony of sound as this maestro sounds like he can play any style at a whim. Don't believe us? Then check out the videos and before you know it his string work with its full dark timber sound will have you feeling emotionally invested.

This will likely be the only time this will ever happens, so if you are an appreciator of music and iconic musicians, we suggest lining up now.
