Heracleion Rediscovered
The once mythical city of Heracleoin has been discovered off the coast of Alexandria.
Buried in sand and mud for over 1,200 years, the ancient city of Heracleion has finally been revealed just off the coast of Alexandria, after four years of excavations by the European Institute for Underwater Archaeology (IEASM.) All sorts of ancient goodies were unearthed including giant tablets inscribed with hieroglyphs and Ancient Greek, 16-foot stone sculptures that are thought to have adorned the city's temple and limestone sarcophagi that are believed to have contained mummified animals, as well as over 60 shipwrecks and 700 anchors. Researchers believe the evidence points to the city's prominence as a bustling trade hub but they are still baffled as to why the city sunk. We can only imagine it was a leaking air conditioner and or broken shatafa, or maybe we're just projecting. Another 1,200 years from now, the mythical office of MO4 may just be discovered, unearthing over one million tweets.
