Saudi Arabia Combats Carbon Emissions With New Hydrogen Trains

Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) commenced a new trial run to test hydrogen trains in the capital of Riyadh. In an effort to shift to renewable energy sources, the introduction of hydrogen trains will bring the kingdom closer to achieving its goal of reducing carbon emissions by 278 million metric tons annually, or 25% of its current emissions, in compliance with regulations set forth by the Saudi Vision initiative of 2021.

The new testing phase mainly centres on three crucial aspects, namely: operational systems, leveraging the expertise of nations with existing hyd-rail infrastructure, and collaborating with manufacturers to tailor the service to Saudi Arabia's unique environmental conditions.
