Sharm to Host Squash World Cup

Great news for squash fans and Egyptians in general. The World Squash Federation has officially awarded Sharm el Sheikh the rights to host the 2014 WSF World Cup. The fourth staging of the unique two-man-one-woman team event will take place at Soho Square in Sharm El Sheikh from 11th-15th December, the very same location that hosted the 2010 Women's World Championship.

“The WSF World Cup features a mixed team format that allows us to showcase the best male and female players competing together for their country,” said WSF President N Ramachandran. “For us to be able to do so this year in Egypt, a squash powerhouse, is especially pleasing.”

The location will give hosts Egypt the chance to defend the 2011 title they won for the first time in Chennai, India. Recently, Ramy Ashour (World No.4 ) is coming off a big win after besting fellow Egyptian Mohamed Elshorbagy (World No.3) at El Gouna International Squash open. Egypt has a very strong roster of Egyptian male and female squash players, and the chances of a championship home win is definitely within Egypt's grasp, and the fact the WSF is willing to host the event in Egypt is a great sign that things are beginning to return to some sense of normalcy.
