On August 2nd, yet another inflation to the cost of standard living was enforced, as President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi approved new legislation set to increase drinking water and sewage management chargers by up to 50%. Officials hope that the new surge in prices will help to revive the general economy by decreasing government subsidies and overall expenditure.

Last month the Egyptian council of ministers agreed on new enactment that resulted in an increase of petroleum prices to about 50%. The change caused standard 80 octane gasoline to skyrocket from EGP 2.35 to EGP 3.65 per litre. Also in July, electricity prices spiked by around 42%. Water will serve as the third commodity to surge in price during this summer.
