In the heart of the vital Nozha Street between Nasr City and Heliopolis, construction took off on yet another new residential complex project back in 2014. This project, however, is nothing like Cairo has seen before; eight humongous smart buildings are coming off the ground with pedestrian bridges connecting their rooftops, which will also have small gardens growing fruits and vegetables, as revealed in a report by Business Insider. The project, which is set to be an epitome of green sustainable architecture, will partially run on solar and wind energy. The apartment, retail and office complex will also feature nine supersized cylindrical structures covered with plants, dubbed mega-trees, and 1000 smart apartments equipped with automatic temperature-adjusting sensors.

The Paris-based Vincent Callebaut Architectures, one of the world's leading agencies, is the mastermind behind the design of Abraj Misr's project, which is set to see the light in 2019. "The main objective behind this project is to raise awareness of green sustainable architecture to fight against global warming to maintain an eco-friendly Earth for our next generation," read the project's philosophy statement.
