Yasmin Raeis to Play The Lead in Upcoming Oum Kulthum Movie

Umm Kalthoum, known as the Nightingale of the Nile, is one of the most influential singers in the Middle East. With songs that continue to play to this day on every Arabic radio station, the iconic contralto is the face and voice of Egyptian music. And what better way to celebrate a legend like her than by dedicating a movie to covering the journey of her life. Yasmin Raeis, famously known for her roles in Hepta, Min Dahr Ragel, and A'rd Khas, will be playing the lead in the film Looking for Oum Kulthum (Al Bahth A'an Umm Kalthoum) which will be premiering at the Venice International Film Festival, taking place from the 30th of August until the 9th of September.

The biopic directed by Sherine Nashaat will be featuring four of the most significant songs Oum Kulthum released over her lifetime, as reported by Middle East Online. With renowned artists like Marwa Nagy and Amin Bouhafa working on the movie's music amongst other iconic musicians of the Arab world, the piece is expected to be nothing short of phenomenal.

The story focuses on the star’s rise to fame and the societal standards she rebelled against to become one of the most revered singers in the Middle Eastern music industry and perhaps the world.
