Following the departure of Argentine manager, Hector Cuper, the Egyptian Football Association has announced former Mexican player and manager, Javier Aguirre, as the new manager of the senior national team, according to ESPN FC.

The appointment comes after reports suggested that the EFA was in talks with France and Arsenal legend, Theirry Henry

Though considerably less known than Henry, the 59 year-old comes with considerably more managerial experience, having taken charge of Spanish La Liga teams, Atlético Madrid, Osasuna, Real Zaragoza and Espanyol, as well the Mexican and Japanese national teams, in a coaching career that spans over 20 years.

Nicknamed El Vasco (The Basque), reports from several media outlets reveal that he has signed a four-year deal, after leaving his last position with UAE's Al Wahda in May 2017.

Aguirre's first competitive match in charge will take place on September 9th, when Egypt kick-off their African Cup Qualification campaign against Niger in Cairo.
