Minister of Culture, Dr.Inas Abd El Dayem announced earlier this week, the inauguration of three new halls - one of which is for Egypt's visually impaired - at the National library and archives located in Cornich El Nil, according to Masry Al Yom.

Among the three halls stands one for the arts and one for all activities pertaining to the oral performance of arts and heritage.

The hall for the visually impaired however is equipped with 11 computers containing audio books and the latest braille printer that translates a wide selection of texts on the library's database to braille.

Egypt's National Library and archives is homes to one of the country's largest collection of cultural heritage. The three halls - which were set up in honor of 2018 being the year of the disabled - aims to provide a significant segment of the Egypt's population with the means with which to access their cultural heritage through auditory books and the introduction of braille into the library.

Abd El Dayem has already reached out to the general organization of cultural palaces for a collaboration, asking the entity to provide the library with books touching on special needs, in an effort to grow their already expansive collection and be more inclusive.
