GUC Students Invent Electricity-Generating Speed Bump

A group of engineering students from the German University in Cairo (GUC) have succeeded in designing, building, and testing several generations of speed bumps that generate electricity. The invention was part of the students’ graduation project, and included teams of Mechatronics, Design, and Materials Engineering students.

The university issued a statement on Monday, explaining that the project has three main objectives: speed limitation, electricity generation and storage, and traffic control.

The project is now in its 7^th generation, having been in the works since 2012. The project’s cost will be a one-time capital for the production equipment. The research team has confirmed that ten speed bumps will generate the same amount of power as a wind turbine.
