The Saudi red sea city of Jeddah will be hosting a star-studded first of its kind Comic Con event which will be attended by international actors Charles Dance from Game of Thrones and Giancarlo Esposito from Breaking Bad. The 3-day festival of pop art, anime, and video gaming is set to begin today with 25K anticipated attendees, Ahram Online reports.

Saudi Arabian geeks had to travel to different cities around the globe to attend such an event, which is why the Saudi government sought to organise a similar one at home. "We have witnessed an increasing Saudi presence at Comic Con events over the past few years, leading us to the desire to organise such an event for them inside Saudi Arabia," Cheif Executive of Saudi's General Entertainment Authority Amr AlMadani said in a statement on Tuesday.

In the same statement, AlMadany urged attendees of the event to stick to the kingdom's "fundamental religious, social, and national traditions."

The event comes in accordance with Saudi Vision 2030, a reform plan by the government aiming at liberalising the economy, while supporting entertainment and cultural activities, which have traditionally been nonexistent due to the kingdom's adherence to and enforcement of strict religious laws.
