These Egyptian Volunteers are Donating the Shoes You Don't Use to Children in Need

Poverty in Egypt has been an ongoing issue for many generations; according to the Minister of Planning and Administrative Development, Ashraf El-Araby, the poverty rate in Egypt sat at 27.8 percent in 2016. The country’s most vulnerable families struggle to access basic humanitarian services such as clean water, and nutritious food. That’s why a group of five Egyptian parents have decided to take up volunteer work in order to help some of Egypt’s most disadvantaged villages whose citizens live under the poverty line. 

Focusing on the town of Mallawi in Upper Egypt's El Minya, these volunteers are now collecting those shoes that sit in our closets collecting dust, because we have no use for them anymore. All of the shoes that are collected will be donated to El Minya’s children, aged 3-16, who often have to go barefoot because the only pair of plastic flip-flops they had have now fallen apart.
