After years of neglect and decline, becoming one of the saddest zoos on the planet, a campaign called Let’s Zoo Egypt wants to return the monumental Giza Zoo to its former glory.

Declaring themselves the future “saviours” of the (in)famous attraction on their Facebook page, the group wants to revive the facility by enhancing animals’ enclosure - assuming they’re still alive to begin with, renewing the zoo’s landscape, and boosting the safety, security, and health of the animals.

They’re calling on Egyptians to do their part to transform the zoo into one of the best in the world, also known as restoring it to its former glory. However, strong support is needed for the campaign to push authorities to get behind their plans.

"We're a group of girls who decided to make a real project for the Giza zoo," the organisers told CairoScene. "We have several ideas, like for example, linking The Orman park to the zoo by building a bridge [between them]... We're looking for supporters of all kinds like negotiators, finance people, zoologists, veterinarians, etc."

Find out more about the initiative on Facebook and don't hesitate to shoot them a message if you can help in any way.
