Canale Undici Season II Has Arrived With A September 30th Opening Party

Canale Undici are headed outdoors and joining forces with Bardo Clubhouse for their Season II opener.

Staff Writer

Ismail Hosny, Nour Emam and Alberto Boccardi have had an eventful five editions of their Canale Undici platform that made up a successful first season. Attracting the likes of Hassan Khan, Zuli, Onsy and several other pioneers of the experimental scene by simply hosting events to a small crowd in Alberto’s living room.

After an extended summer break, CU are back and set to launch their second series of events. This time they’re collaborating with Maadi’s newest creative space, Bardo Clubhouse, to bring the experience outdoors along with four artists that are making their Canale Undici debut in a slightly different format. We contacted Ismail Hosny for a more detailed view of what lies in store for us, he elaborated “The next event is a bit different." Continuing, "our past events were built around two acts; this time we have four. It's outdoors, and we'll be hosting almost triple the number of audience.”

The line up combines seasoned musician - 100Copies founder and DCAF music curator - Mahmoud Refat with upcoming experimental act Baskot Lel Baltageyya (Cookies For Thugs). Coke Machine will also be performing a healthy portion of original songs. Inspired by the likes of Joy Divison and Beach House, Coke Machine are an ensemble playing everything from shoe gaze to dream-punk - with a keen taste for non commercialised rock sub genres. Finally a mysterious artist, heavily influenced by 80s Egyptian drug culture, going by the name of DJ MAXTON FORT, will also make an appearance - liquid amphetamines will NOT be served at the party. We asked Ismail if Canale Undici will continue expanding in terms of venue and crowd size. He says that “this is sort of a one off to celebrate starting the new season. We'll be back to our normal format with the coming events in one of Bardo's indoor rooms and will be back to the usual capacity.”

Head to Canale Undici’s Facebook for more updates.

*Update: The guestlist for this event is now closed.
