Disco Misr Made a Track for Nelly Karim’s New Valentine’s Day Comedy

Amr Emad and Mostafa El Sherif aka Disco Misr are back to doing what they do best. Their latest production is a re-work of the folklore love song or rather ‘mawal’ - Ala Wara'a ElFol by the voice of Khadra Mohamed Khedr. They managed to turn the traditional love ballad into a groovy track that has the potential of starting a genre, perhaps called rababa-disco. This overhaul of the classic song comes as part of the official soundtrack for a Valentine’s Day romcom entitled Bashtery Ragel, starring silver screen heavyweight Nelly Karim opposite Grand Hotel break-out star Mohamed Mamdouh.

The offbeat remix premiered on Nogoum FM last Tuesday by Ma’ak Fel Sekka host Khaled Eleish and was uploaded to the movie’s official Facebook page and Youtube channel the following day. The fallahi-rababa-disco-mawal comes with an equally fun and oddball video, starting off with the lyrics projecting over a whirling Sufi dervish. As the beat drops it develops into a belly dancer strutting along the screen and shaking over a background of colourful geometric visuals, along with some more snippets of dancing from vintage Egyptian movies.
