There are reasons to remain optimistic for a return of tourist interest to Egypt this year, as Airbnb and Pinterest shared their user data and named Sharm El Sheikh as the number 1 most desirable holiday around the world.

After analysing three billion travel ideas on Pinterest and over three million listings on Airbnb, spread across 65,000 cities, the two companies have unveiled that Sharm El Sheikh is trending as the most desirable holiday destination, according to their users.

Incredibly, Sharm El Sheikh managed to claim the top spot despite popular searches for Iceland increasing by 365% since January, while Scotland rose by a whopping 430%. The Red Sea getaway also stands out as the only location in the entire MENA region to make the list, as even Dubai failed to rank among the top 10.

Following Sharm El Sheikh and claiming the second spot is Tenerife, Canary Islands, while the gorgeous slopes of Courchevel, France landed in third place. Claiming the top spot should hopefully spur travel companies to push booking the Egyptian coastal gem, even though Thomas Cook announced that they will cancel all their trips to Sharm El Sheikh through winter and summer 2018.
